Artist Bio
Artist:  Gong JiXian
Biography:  Born in Beijing in 1939, Gong Ji Xian graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts Chinese Painting Department in 1963. He studied natural landscape and human form under the celebrated painters Li Kuchan, Li Keran, Qie Qianyu, and Wang Xuetaoyu. He is an expert in freehand ink nature painting as well as possessing extensive knowledge of Chinese art history. In 1963, he came to Shanghai to direct the identification of calligraphy paintings, identifying numerous works from private and public collections. Within his paintings, force and stillness are harmonized to create a simple focal point. Having work repeatedly exhibited in China and abroad, earning 《龚继先画集》 and 《怎样画荷花》 rank. He acted as a complier of The Complete Works of Chinese Fine Art and assistant editor of The Classification of the Complete Works of Chinese Fine Art for the Shanghai People’s Publishing House. Presently, he is a member of the Chinese Fine Arts Association, the Shanghai Fine Arts Association and the Shanghai Literature and History Institute. He is also an instructor at the Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Academy , ­and the vice president of the Shanghai Landscape Painting and Calligraphy Institute. ­
