Artist Bio
Artist:  Stefanie Vallee
Biography:  Stefanie Vallee is a french-canadian artist, native from Quebec province. She is a professional artist since 2004 and her paintings are exhibited into two galleries in Canada. She studied in art and communication at Laval University, in Quebec. She lives in China since 2008, stayed 3 months in Dalian and moved to Shanghai, in December 2009, where she is devoted full time to her painting work.

Stefanie has always been appealed by Chinese culture as a child and used to tell people that she would one day exhibit her paintings over there. She feels like she is right now achieving her dream, as opportunities are arising to her. She is learning mandarin and she practices Chinese calligraphy. She finds it really fun and challenging.

Stefanie is also an accomplished athlete in her country. She is eight times Canadian Champion in white water kayaking, and still represents Canada at international races. Her last best result was 4th at World Championship in Spain, in June 2010.

Art also offer to her this opportunity. She is learning from her Chinese friend that success is a matter of time and effort, while providing help to others. Also her learnings from sport, like discipline, determination and focus, are assets to her painting work. Furthermore, there is a genuine link between her sport and her art: water. In both cases, she uses water as a conveyor. She is playing with it to create surprises, excitement, fun, inspiration. She has developed a profound comprehension and respect for water element, that allow her to paint all her painting at least 80% without a brush. Watching Stefanie painting is quite entertaining. She is taking risks pouring on, spattering, scrubbing off and tilting her canvas to have the pigment run and play. That creates a magnificent light in her paintings. She is using mostly water color for landscape, and ink, oil and acrylic for her contemporary artwork. Although she is painting since her very youngest age and learned from some North American masters, she says she has a lot to learn from China art and culture.
