Liu Dawei graduated from the Arts Department of Inner Mongolia Normal College in 1968 and postgraduate class of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. He was taught by famous Chinese painters including Ye Qianyu, Jiang Zhaohe, Li Keran, Wu Zuoren, Huang Zhou, who has a solid mastery of basic skills of drawing, makes great efforts to be innovative and is good at fine brushwork and freehand brushwork. He was elected as Executive Deputy Chairman of Chinese Artists’ Association in 1998, in charge of its daily work.
After long-term practice of artistic creation, he has gradually formed his own artistic style with distinct individual features, whose works are well-painted and profound with strong living flavors. His works are famous for reflecting the living styles of northern minority nationalities and major historic subject matters.
Large number of his works have been exhibited in many countries and areas including China, America, Japan, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the recent dozens of years. He has won various prizes for more than 30 times. Some of his artwork were selected as national gifts to foreign dignitaries by Chinese President Jiang Zemin. He is a contemporary Chinese painter who has made outstanding achievements and is greatly influential.
