World of Feeling and Color - Art by : Jian Chongzhi

During Mr Jian’s younger years, he was living in Aba Altiplano where he spent much of his time amongst nature. He, therefore expresses in his paintings the fervor of nature through his art of landscape. Mr Jian was one of the first artists to find and draw scenery of well known Jiuzhaigou, and for more than 30 years has been noted and widely recognized for his pictures, which are passionate, vibrant and very meticulous.

The main focus in Mr. Jian’s pictures is their representation of feeling and color. Having been in nature for a long time he has accumulated aptitude and sensitivities to scenery. He conveys this ability and closeness to nature through his paintings and then directly to the viewer. The way he expresses himself through his paintings is absolutely beautiful. His various techniques and use of flowery color; pastels or boldness, dullness or liveliness, all express his love of nature and the moods and shapes it takes in his art. In his paintings you can see the colorful features of an impressionist, the latent sobriety of the Russian, and yet the elegant and broad feature of traditional Chinese paintings. He uses many techniques to articulate his feelings, and because of his splendid abilities he can draw freely. While combining many wonderful features of different drawers, he establishes his own style, which is special and graceful.

Many years ago, the famous drawer Lin Yong commented on Mr. Jian’s collection, stating, ”He’s showing his real feelings, naivety and honesty. He didn’t rest on general sketch, but did his best to play out his own feelings. Maybe this is the so called ‘mind show in the picture’ of a traditional Chinese painting. Another feature of his pictures is that he shows his mind and concept adequate and deeply. From another point of the view, maybe we should say that Jian Chongzhi is the illustrator, who always put his heart into the pictures… that is a picture of a man with true life and true love.”
