Landscape Fairyland - Tan Kwank Liang's Art Exhibition

Artists Bio:

Tan Kwank Liang has been an artist for more than 20 years. He has held more than 10 solo exhibitions and has exhibited in Singapore, China, USA, England, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Ecuador, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. 

In 1989, he was awarded the Singapore Cultural Foundation/Rotary Club of Singapore Scholarship to do research in Tribal Art in University of Papua New Guinea. Upon his return, he did a series of works with distinct style which were well received by the media. 

In 1991, he was sponsored by the Singapore National Arts Council to do a study research tour in the USA for 3 months. The works he executed there after reflected the social conditions of the Americans. 

In 1995, he created a series of works based on the theme ‘Window’. These works examined the ambivalent living conditions of the South-east Asian and their urban city life. 

In 1996, Kwank Liang was awarded a bursary to further his study in UK graduating with a MA – Fine Art. He also produced an experimental film on the London Underground (The Tube). 

Inspired by the adverse living condition in the West, Kwank Liang created a series of sculptures – ‘Seeing Red’ in 2001. 
In 2007, Kwank Liang was invited to the Cuenca Biennale. He was awarded the Singapore National Arts Council International Travel Grant to represent Singapore in the Biennale. 

He lives and works in London, Singapore, Shanghai.
